I chose to study at NTU primarily because it is ranked among the top 15 fashion schools in the UK, reflecting its excellent programs and successful graduates. The convenient location in a vibrant city with great transport links also influenced my decision, offering easy access to fashion hubs and creative industries.

NTU's state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including modern studios and comprehensive libraries, provide an ideal learning environment. The university's strong industry connections and emphasis on practical experience through internships and placements are crucial for developing the skills needed for a successful fashion career.

Additionally, positive reviews from alumni and current students about the supportive community and dedicated faculty further assured me that NTU is the perfect place for both academic and personal growth.

You today:

Since graduating from NTU in 2022, my days have become a blend of professional growth and personal development. I was fortunate to secure a sponsorship in the health sector with the company I worked part-time for during my studies. Now, I work full-time there for three days a week, contributing to meaningful projects and gaining valuable experience.

On my workdays, I focus on various tasks and collaborate with a dedicated team, enhancing my skills and understanding of the health sector. This experience is invaluable and provides a strong foundation for my professional journey.

The remaining days of the week are dedicated to my passion for fashion. I use this time to network with other professionals, tailor custom pieces for clients, and work on my own designs. This balance allows me to stay creative and continually evolve my craft.

Every day is a mix of learning, creating, and connecting with both the health and fashion worlds, driving me to achieve my goals and dreams in these dynamic industries.

I've always had a passion for art and fashion. My first degree was in Creative Art, where I majored in fashion and textile design. What truly attracted me to this field is my love for creating unique pieces that make me look and feel my best. This personal passion quickly evolved into a business as people began to notice and demand my designs. Turning my creativity into a profession has been incredibly fulfilling, allowing me to blend my artistic talents with a thriving career in fashion.

What challenges have you faced?

Balancing a full-time job in the health sector with my fashion brand has been a major challenge. Working three days a week in healthcare and dedicating the rest to fashion requires careful time management and discipline.

What have been the highlights and biggest challenges of your career so far?

Highlights:

Launching My Fashion Brand: Another major highlight has been successfully launching my own fashion brand. What started as a passion project quickly grew into a business as demand for my custom pieces increased. Seeing my designs come to life and receiving positive feedback from clients has been incredibly rewarding.

Networking and Collaboration: Building a network of industry professionals and collaborating with other designers has been an enriching experience. Attending fashion events, workshops, and seminars has not only expanded my knowledge but also opened doors to exciting opportunities and partnerships.

Challenges:

Balancing Dual Careers: One of the biggest challenges has been balancing my full-time job in the health sector with my passion for fashion. Managing time effectively and ensuring I give my best to both roles requires a lot of discipline and strategic planning. There have been many late nights and early mornings to meet the demands of both careers.

High Cost of Materials: Sourcing materials in the UK has been a significant challenge due to the higher costs. In Nigeria, I was able to find high-quality fabrics at reasonable prices, but in the UK, the expense is much greater. This has required me to be more resourceful and strategic in my purchasing decisions to maintain the quality of my designs while staying within budget.

Market Competition: The fashion industry is highly competitive, especially in a global hub like the UK. Standing out in such a crowded market has been challenging. I’ve had to continuously innovate and refine my brand to attract and retain clients.

Despite these challenges, each one has taught me valuable lessons in resilience, adaptability, and resourcefulness. The highlights of my career remind me why I started this journey, and the challenges motivate me to keep pushing forward and growing both personally and professionally.

What are your plans for the future?

Looking ahead, I am excited about the possibilities the future holds. My immediate plan is to continue growing my fashion brand, expanding its reach and influence. I aim to innovate with new designs and establish a strong presence in the fashion industry.

Would you recommend NTU?

Absolutely, I highly recommend NTU to other international students. The quality of education is outstanding, with supportive faculty and excellent facilities. Life in Nottingham is student-friendly, with a reasonable cost of living compared to cities like London. The city is welcoming, with a strong sense of community and friendly locals, making it easier to settle in. NTU’s diverse student body and numerous extracurricular activities provide a rich cultural experience and opportunities for making lasting friendships. Overall, NTU offers an excellent balance of academic excellence and a supportive, affordable environment.
